Rainy Weather Wellness Tips for Staying Healthy
The rain is pouring down in SE QLD, and while it’s a welcome change for our friends out West, it’s important to stay on top of your health during this wet season. Here are some practical naturopathic tips for optimal wellness in the big wet:
Combat Mould: Stop mould in its tracks by cleaning with vinegar and clove bud oil-based products. Keep your home dry by using dehumidifiers, setting your air conditioning to ‘dry,’ and lighting up the indoor fireplace if you have one. If you're in the mountains, running fans in all rooms can also help keep moisture levels at bay.
Boost Personal Wellness: Incorporate antimicrobial foods and drinks into your diet. Papaya leaf tea, onions, garlic, and warming spices like ginger, star anise, and clove are excellent additions. Wholesome curries infused with these ingredients not only taste great but also help fight infections caused by mould exposure.
Stay Active and Warm: Autumn weather often brings cooler temperatures and higher moisture levels, increasing susceptibility to colds and flus. Stay warm and dry while keeping energized with indoor activities like yoga and floor pilates. Movement and warmth are key to maintaining immunity and overall health.
Add These Immunity Herbs:
-
Echinacea: Supports the immune system by combating viruses and infections, ideal for seasonal changes.
-
Olive Leaf: Packed with antioxidants like oleuropein, it fights harmful organisms and boosts immunity.
-
Ganoderma Mushroom: Regulates white blood cells and protects cells, enhancing immune function.
-
Astragalus: Reduces inflammation and strengthens the body’s response to seasonal stressors.
