Lets make some refreshing Minty citrus spritz!
Share
Hello and how are you today?
I have a recipe for this delicious drink further down the page... Sparkly and summery!
Let's talk about this weather for a minute? So hot here earlier in the week and now its sultry and been raining on the mountain for the last few days. South East QLD has had terrible spring storms with hail and loads of lightening. Its scary sometimes when the sky is so black and thundery!
I want to chat with you about hydration and staying cool in the coming summer months. It seams to me like the weather patterns are changing with global warming and what we experienced as summers in the past can't be counted on again! One of the problems with shifting and unpredictable weather is that your body is constantly adjusting to the challenges of temperature and hydration. Your metabolism goes a little out of whack with these too.
One of the best things you can do is to stay cool and out of the sun, live in the shade for the hotter parts of the day and keep your home cool with fans. Using air conditioning and having unnatural coolness such as 20 degrees C on a 35 degree day can lead to respiratory tract and lung illnesses. It can also effect your heart and your blood pressure. So if you are using air con , make sure its a healthier 25 or 26 degrees and only use it when necessary, such as ensuring you have a good night sleep or when you need to relax and rest, Fans are better for the body as they don't destabalise you so much.
Have cool showers , swims and baths through the day, its a healthy way to cool down the whole body and stay well hydrated with refreshing, non sugary drinks. Limit your fruit juices and carbonated drinks and get used to less sweetness or use a natural stevia one instead. IN this recipe I have used honey as its my favourite.
Lets make a cooling herbal drink.
MInty citrus spritz.
To make 1 litre you will need
The juice of two oranges
200ml of strong peppermint tea that has been cooled down in the fridge
500ml soda or sparkling mineral water
2 tablespoons runny honey.
1. Make a cup of herbal tea 200ml and while its hot add in the two tablespoons of honey. If you use tea bags add three teabags to the 200ml of boiling water and leave the tea bags in the cup for thirty minutes before removing them ( we are making a really strong tea ) if you are using dried peppermint loose leaves use 1 tablespoon and strain off the water after 30 minutes and squeeze out the liquid.
2. Pop the tea in fridge to cool.
3, Squeeze the juice of two cold oranges, or four cold mandarins.
4. mix the tea and the orange juice together in a jug. Add 500ml of soda water and serve in glasses with a little ice and garnish with fresh mint and citrus slices.
Enjoy!
