I love Autumn, its time to start consolidating plans, getting on with awesome projects and as the weather cools down we can snuggle into our homes and enjoy some quietness after the busy summer.
I personally find that at this time of the year my mind is really active. I am thinking clearly, feeling focused and really able to do mental tasks with joy and ease. How about you? Are you feeling clear and focused?
There are some basic herbs that help me and I love taking them in my daily tonic. The "brahmi" herbs are mind herbs, translated as " Brain food" these are the herbs that help us be mentally focused and on task! The two traditional Indian ones are Bacopa and Gotu Kola. These herbs both are adaptogenic and they work on the whole body, however they are both brain foods and help us focus better and have clarity of mind and intuition.
Beautiful Gotu Kola, ( centella asiatica) is a Brahmi.
The herbal extraction works on your brain markers, including catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione, and MDA. This herb protects brain cells by reducing lipid peroxidation. A combination of these factors may be responsible for heightened concentration, improved memory, and superior knowledge retention.
Make pot of gotu kola tea by adding one teaspoon of dried leaves or 3 teaspoons of fresh leaves to your tea pot. Simply cover with boiling water and allow to infuse for ten minutes. Then sip while your working! Easy access to your super brain!
In many cultures meditation is a daily practice and its something that these herbs help with too. Focus doesn't need to be a hard struggle to cram information in our minds, it is also a stillness, and an emptiness that allows the thoughts to rise to the top of the consciousness so that they are obvious. Yes focus can be done with ease and grace!
Mindfulness is the practice of being consciously conscious and staying present in each moment with what we are doing. It's the ability to do what we need to do and be aware of each action. In my mind I love the consciousness of observing what I am doing and working mentally on really exciting ideas! I find these herbs help me to stay on track with all of this.
Herbs for our mind are also herbs that increase circulation, these include gotu kola again and also Ginkgo biloba is my favourite. Ginkgo helps remove the plaque on your neurons allowing clear mental pathways and great circulation in the brain. It's revered for mental clarity and also one of the best herbs to protect your brain cells from damage. It is also known to help with ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, and aids task performance and memory!
This is some beautiful Ginkgo biloba oil that we made in the herbal dispensary. Its full of goodness and you can add it to your salads and meals! Or massage it into our skin and hair!
Make your Ginkgo biloba oil at home if you are lucky to have access to some fresh leaves. Simply marinate them in the oil in a jar for a couple of weeks, squeeze the excess oil out and use the oil !
Hope you have a great Autumn working on your projects and keeping your mind enthusiastic and clear.
