Recipe for Cacao Mylk and why are Calcium and Magnesium so Important?

Lets talk about Calcium and Magnesium.

As we age we become concerned about our Bone density, our nutrition and how much of the common minerals we need in our body for optimal wellness. Problems with bone density can happen at any age with nutritional deficits and lack of absorption of nutrients in the body. So its something we all want to be aware of!

This morning one of my clients came by at the markets and asked about what they can do to help themselves stay healthy in this way and to prevent Osteoporosis and Osteopenia. This is where the bones weaken because the stores of Calcium are depleted.

Calcium and magnesium are essential minerals. Calcium provides structure to bones and supports nerve function. Magnesium helps by stimulating a hormone called calcitonin, which draws calcium from the blood and tissues back into the bones.

When there’s not enough calcium in the blood, magnesium assists in maintaining the balance. Low magnesium intake can cause calcium to move out of bones, while high magnesium levels encourage calcium to move back into bones, promoting bone health

Here are the best foods you can have :

When it comes to these minerals then seeds and nuts are the best foods from the vegetable kingdom. Plant Mylks made from these also very good and you can't go wrong making yourself a hot Chocolate drink with Raw Mayan cacao ( a very high source of Plant magnesium) mixed with Almond Mylk ( which is a wonderful source of Calcium and Magnesium)

Calcium:

My favourite is Almonds. The seed and nut world are really our friends when it comes to these minerals.

Seeds: Poppy, sesame, celery, and chia seeds.

Cheese: Parmesan, Brie, and other varieties.

Yogurt: Rich in calcium and probiotics.

Leafy Greens: Kale, spinach, and broccoli.

Fortified Foods: Orange juice, cereals, etc.

Magnesium:

My favourite is Raw mayan Cacao and all the seeds and nuts are delicious in our diet.

Almonds: Roasted almonds

Cashews: Roasted cashews

Flaxseed: Whole flaxseed

Peanuts: Dry roasted peanuts

Here are our favourite herbs from our Dispensary that contain calcium and magnesium. Herbs are a great way to fortify your food with minerals and nutrients as well as the active constituents that they contain.

Interestingly in the plant world Calcium and magnesium often travel together in synergy , side by side to help your body.

Nettle

Nettle tea, nettle in stir fries, nettle salads.

Oat Straw

Delicious in tea, fortify soups with Infusiion of Oat Straw by simply adding a cup to the liquid component of the soup.

Spirulina

Mix one teaspoon of spirulina into some yoghurt and eat daily. Or mix in juices, smoothies or water.

Basil

Make pesto and add Basil to salads. Its delicious as a herbal tea too.

My recipe for Hot Cacao and Mylk.

Take 1 teaspoon of raw mayan Cacao per cup ( 300 ml to 400ml) . Heat up with Plant mylk ( Almond) and add honey to taste. Do not boil. Just allow it to reach the heat you want to drink it at. Make sure you stir well. Enjoy!
